An Adventure for 2026

 

 "To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek Him the greatest adventure; to find Him, the greatest human achievement." - St. Augustine.

 

For a New Years resolution, try this one: "This year I resolve to embark on an exhilarating adventure that leads me to, according to St. Augustine, the greatest human achievement known to man."

While that sounds like a remarkably ambitious pledge, the quest to find God is not nearly as daunting as one might think and Scripture tells us "the greatest human achievement," finding God, is certainly attainable.

"You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart," says God in Jeremiah 29:13.

 

According to Moses, who was no slouch in his quest for God, "But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul." (Deuteronomy 4:29)

And God tells us in Proverbs 8:17, "I love those who love me; and those who diligently seek me will find me."

 

As these verses explain, we simply need to be intentional and sincere in our quest.

 

We will find a God who is more than willing to be discovered. The fact is, like a parent playing hide-and-seek with a child, God takes delight in being found by us. He wants relationship with us and He went to extreme lengths to sacrifice His beloved Son on a cross to make that possible.

 

Hence, in our quest to seek Him, we will find that God is never that far away.

 

If at times He does seem distant, we're encouraged to be persistent in praying for His presence.

 

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7)

 

The rewards of seeking and finding relationship with God are enormous. We will find the fortitude to overcome whatever challenges may arise in the year ahead. (Philippians 4:13), as well as enjoy His provision, protection, guidance, and direction.

 

We serve a God of new beginnings. As we begin a new calendar year, let us resolve to daily seek God and spend time with Him in prayer and on reading His Word, the Bible.
